HDA method: feeling the edge of the aura with an open palm

How to Feel the Aura With Your Hands: The HDA Method in 2 Simple Exercises

Can you really feel the human aura with your hands? In more than 30 years of observing and recording the development of the aura, I have found that many people can — often far sooner than they expect. The method I use is called HDA (Hand Detection of the Aura). It needs no equipment, no special preparation, and it can be practised at any time of day.

In this article I describe the two simple exercises from my book The Manual for Initiation and Development of the Human Aura with which you can test — and train — this ability yourself.

What is the HDA method?

The HDA method is observation of the aura by hand. Instead of trying to see the aura, you learn to feel the edge of its field with the inner surface of your palm. When your hand enters another person’s aura, you notice a gentle but distinct change: a sense of pressure, density or „resistance“ on your palm.

Its great advantage is practicality. Visual observation of the aura requires the right light, the right background and a calm, prepared observer. Detection by hand can be done anywhere, at any time — which makes it the most rewarding way to follow the growth of the aura over months and years.

Who can do it?

Not everyone develops this sensitivity at the same speed. People who, for health reasons or by heredity, have a „more sensitive“ aura usually learn the HDA method very quickly. Experience shows that the number of people with a natural predisposition is not small. That is why I recommend practising in a small group: in almost every group there is at least one person who picks up the method almost immediately — and the others learn by working with them.

Exercise 1: Feel the field between your palms

Exercise 1 of the HDA method: palms facing each other, sensing the field between the hands
Exercise 1 – feeling the field between the palms (illustration from the book)
  1. Sit comfortably. Bend your arms at the elbows and turn your palms towards each other, at any distance.
  2. Slowly bring your hands closer together until they are only two to three centimetres apart.
  3. Then move them back to the starting position with a gentle circular motion — and repeat.
  4. Keep going for five to ten minutes.

What to look for: after a while you should feel the presence of a dense, invisible „fluid“ forming between your palms — as if your hands were pressing into a soft cushion of air. That sensation is the goal of the exercise.

Exercise 2: Find the edge of your partner’s aura

HDA method: an open palm approaching a person to feel the edge of the aura
Exercise 2 – finding the edge of your partner’s aura with an open palm (illustration from the book)
  1. Your partner stands or lies down, relaxed.
  2. Hold your open palm towards them and approach their body very slowly, from any distance.
  3. Pay attention to the inner surface of your palm. At the moment you feel the change in the field — the same pressure you felt in the first exercise — you have entered the space of your partner’s aura.
  4. Note the distance. Repeat on different parts of the body and on different days.

Once you have mastered this exercise, you can follow the development of the aura in the same way as in the observations described in my book: day by day, week by week, recording how the field expands.

Why it is good for both people

Both exercises are useful not only for the person who observes, but also for the person being observed. The reason is that the exercise has much in common with bioenergy therapy: in my experience, it strengthens the overall bioenergetic potential of the aura.

Where HDA fits in the bigger picture

Feeling the aura is only the first step. The foundation of the whole method is deep physiological relaxation, based on Edmund Jacobson’s progressive relaxation. When body and mind come into balance, meditation arrives on its own — and the aura begins to grow: first through the peripheral chakras in the palms, the soles of the feet and above the head, and later through the seven formation chakras and the „circles of power“ through which the aura expands into space. With the HDA method you can follow every one of these stages with your own hands.

Start today — and keep a record

The single most important habit is to write down what you feel: the date, the distance at which you felt the edge of the field, and how strong the sensation was. After a few weeks those notes show your progress far more clearly than memory ever could.

To help you with this, I give readers a free Aura Development Diary and a free introduction to my webinar series.
